Kloö is a small island of dry ground in the middle of Kloömosse bog. The reserve is covered by natural forest with pine, spruce, and birch, and here you can also find the remains of an old soldier’s croft. You can reach Kloömosse in several ways, but there are no signposts or parking areas, so it can be a little difficult to find your way.
The name Kloö comes from an old soldier’s croft that once stood here, right in the middle of the desolate bog. This was the only land that the local farmers were willing to let their allotted soldier cultivate. At that time, farmers in Sweden were responsible for providing for a cavalryman, soldier, or sailor, whom they paid and supplied with a croft and a small plot of land to farm. It has now been over 100 years since the last crofter passed away, and nature is slowly reclaiming the once cultivated land.
